The exhibition layout of Poggi's masterpieces in Pavia

The exhibition is dedicated to Roberto Poggi (1924-2020), cabinetmaker and entrepreneur from Pavia, considered one of the founding fathers of the modern furniture industry, and was promoted by the Order of Architects Planners Landscapers and Conservators of the Province of Pavia under the supervision of Kangaroo, a team of professionals who have been working in the multidisciplinary fields of construction and design for 20 years. The exhibition is an important retrospective on Poggi's role in Italian design: for over sixty years, in fact, together with his workers, he created many pieces of furniture, considered icons of industrial design and present in the collections of prestigious international museums. In order to take care of this particular exhibition, we consulted with the Order of Architects, using materials agreed with them for the display. The need to adequately present the unique pieces and prototypes that have made the history of Made in Italy design led us to use materials such as MDF, the panel of very fine, medium-density wood fibres, bound together by adhesives that make it extremely compact: in some places we deliberately left this material raw, to recall the atmosphere of the carpentry workshops where Poggi's masterpieces were conceived. Among the other installations, we have also created bases, risers and supports for the explanatory graphics, using polycarbonate protections with visible cuts and screws, again to replicate the atmospheres of the workshop in which these artefacts were created, using craftsmanship techniques that were highly innovative for those times and still difficult to imitate today.
