The decoration of the Arch of Casa Alessia in Novara
In this article we would like to tell you a beautiful story of solidarity. In the Sant'Agabio district, on the outskirts of Novara, an old fountain in the shape of an arch, built above the road surface of the Largo Alessia square, had fallen into disuse: it no longer worked and its metal structure had rusted.
To upgrade the area's street furniture, the municipality entrusted the management and restoration work to a voluntary association, the Amici Casa Alessia Onlus: the square has the same name of this association, involved in fantastic humanitarian projects in Italy and abroad to support the weakest and neediest children. It is dedicated to Alessia Mairati, a girl from Novara, who in 2003, at the age of 16, left for Ecuador on a scholarship and tragically disappeared with her mother in a plane crash in July 2004. Her great dream was to help destitute and needy children: this is also the mission that the Association, founded by her father Giovanni, is carrying out with its volunteer friend, who restored the fountain, putting it back into use and repainting it, from the blue it was, with the yellow and red colours that Alessia liked so much and that are the distinctive colours of the association.
Not content with their albeit excellent work, they contacted us to add a further touch of creativity with a new decoration of their work: and we were delighted to be involved in this project, guaranteeing our support and redesigning the Largo Alessia environment with the association's yellow and red sunflowers! After having worked out the graphic development of the project together with the volunteers, we made the decorations in permanent adhesive, suitable for outdoors and specially produced for this kind of work. And when the time came to apply them, with our aerial platforms and our good will we worked in the middle of the road, trying to limit the inconvenience to traffic as much as possible. Applying the decorations was indeed problematic, because the roundabout in the square is located in a key point of Novara's road system, but we managed to complete the work in a short time and with a result that was appreciated by everyone. And now, every time we pass under Alessia's colourful arch, we are convinced that she is watching us from the sky with her bright smile...
