The monument restoration in Piazza Martiri della Libertà in Novara
Historical monuments are the memory of our community and deserve proper attention when they need to be restored. And here too we have something to tell you.
Historical monuments are the memory of our community and deserve proper attention when they need to be restored. And here too we have something to tell you. One of the most difficult projects we have had to deal with was undoubtedly the challenge we faced in Novara, in Piazza Martiri della Libertà, where the Victor Emmanuel II monument stands. For the lengthy restoration work, financed with the proceeds of the 5X1000 donation from Ancos, the association of Confartigianato Imprese Piemonte Orientale, it was necessary to harness the site with a structure that would cover it for a few months and, at the same time, serve as an element of dissemination on the characteristics of the monument and of the restoration work. The main obstacle to be faced was the material: usually micro-perforated sheets are used for these sites, which provide a windproof safety system, but do not allow for sufficient graphic resolution for the readability of the texts and images that were to be used to explain the project to passers-by. As always, we did not lose heart and found the best solution: we decided to use a printed PVC canvas of 510 grams per m2, which guarantees a high graphic resolution, and we solved the problem of windproofing by means of an anchoring system with elastic ropes. In this way, the sheets remain perfectly tensioned to allow the text and images to be readable even in strong winds, while at the same time guaranteeing safety for those working on the site and for passers-by. We then designed and developed the graphics on the PVC canvas, searching through old historical postcards of Novara to find the images best suited for this purpose. And that's not all: the installation of the windproof anchoring system could not be carried out with vans or cranes, as the structure of the cobbled square paving would have been compromised. We therefore resorted to the old-fashioned way of working, fixing all the sheets by hand. In short, a truly environmentally friendly intervention: the construction site will soon be illuminated thanks to the green energy provided by the Egea Group!
